Sven Hammarling, Principal Consultant

Sven has held the position of Principal Consultant at NAG since 1992, with his primary responsibility being the development and support of NAG’s Numerical Libraries.

Sven has contributed to many development activities at NAG, but in particular numerical linear algebra, optimization, high performance computing, portable numerical software and associated standards.

Prior to NAG, Sven was a Principal Research Fellow at the National Physical Laboratory and before that was a Senior Lecturer in Numerical Analysis at Middlesex University. During sabbatical leave in 1995 to 1996 Sven held the position of Research Professor at the University of Tennessee.

Sven is also currently Visiting Professor to the Applied Mathematics and Operational Research Section of the Engineering Systems Department at Cranfield University and Senior Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Manchester.

Sven gained a BSc (1st) in Mathematics for Business at Middlesex University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics, C.math and CSci. Sven is also a member of the EPSRC Mathematics College, is an Associate Editor for the ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software and is a member of SIAM.

Sven has written or co-authored a number of books, articles and technical reports, including co-authoring the Level 2 and Level 3 BLAS, LAPACK and ScaLAPACK. Sven's bibliograhy is available in pdf format.
