At SC12 today (14 November), NAG reveals that the benefits of NAG High Performance Computing (HPC) expertise are now enjoyed by customers across 5 of the 6 inhabited continents – North America, Europe, South Africa, Australia and Asia.
- NAG announces support for IBM BlueGene/Q supercomputers
12 November 2012. At SC12 in Salt Lake City, USA, the Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG) announces the availability of their high quality numerical libraries for IBM’s Blue Gene/Q® third generation massively parallel supercomputer from IBM. This follows successful testing on the JUQUEEN supercomputer in Jülich, Germany. The JUQUEEN Blue Gene/Q® at Forschungszentrum Jülich is part of the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS). Sequoia, another Blue Gene/Q® at LLNL became the world’s most powerful known supercomputer in June 2012, taking the top spot in the Top500 list.
- NAG delivers numerical software quality for Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessors
At SC12 today (12 November), NAG announces numerical software and services to support customer adoption of Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessors. Routines from the NAG Library, running on the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor, offload intensive computations to the coprocessor when it is efficient to do so. This enables users to exploit the power of the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor transparently.
- The NAG Library for C and C++ programmers receives a major update including new optimizers
12 September 2012 - The Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG) announces new numerical functionality added to its numerical library for C and C++ programmers. The new functionality at Mark 23 of the NAG C Library brings the number of routines to 1452, all of which are expertly documented and includes two entirely new chapters plus extensions in the areas of statistics, nonlinear equations, wavelet transforms, ordinary differential equations, interpolation, surface fitting, optimization, matrix operations, linear algebra, large scale linear systems, and special functions.
- NAG Fortran Compiler now supports OpenMP and more new language features
15 August 2012 - The Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG) announce the availability of a significant update to their highly standard-conformant, error-checking, Fortran Compiler. Release 5.3 of the NAG Fortran Compiler, together with the associated NAG Fortran Builder development environment for Microsoft Windows, can now be downloaded from the organization's website www.nag.com.
- The NAG Toolbox for MATLAB® is updated with extensive new functionality and to improve ease of use
26 July 2012 - The Numerical Algorithms Group announces new numerical functionality added to its NAG Toolbox for MATLAB® at the latest release (Mark 23). The new functionality brings the number of functions within the NAG Toolbox to 1535 – making it the world’s largest toolbox for MATLAB. In addition to the 149 new numerical functions, a major enhancement, based on user feedback, focuses on improving ease of use.

July 2012 - The Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG) is delighted to announce its partnership with the HPCFinance network. Numerical algorithms in the NAG Library are used by practitioners in the finance industry around the world to reliably perform their complex computations whether that be managing risk or optimizing hedge fund performance. In conjunction with developing numerical algorithm libraries, NAG provides world-class high performance computing (HPC) services via a dedicated team of in-house HPC experts. The nature of NAG's software development coupled with their HPC expertise aligned perfectly with the stated goals of the new HPCFinance network making them natural partners. NAG will be providing HPC services training and software to the HPCFinance researchers enabling their computational finance research.
- NAG announces new numerical routines specially tuned for OpenMP at the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC12) in Hamburg
June 2012 - The NAG Library for SMP & Multicore, a de facto standard for numerical code, has been extended with an additional group of algorithms, specifically engineered for the current generation of computer systems. With new functions in important areas that include Optimization, Statistics, Matrix operations, PDE solvers and ODE solvers, the update to the NAG Library for SMP & Multicore will benefit many new and existing software developers who run code a multiple core systems.
- NAG Attains the UK's Investors in People Gold Standard
March 2012 - The Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG) is awarded the UK's highest official Investors in People (IIP) standard after a stringent review process. NAG has always prided itself on its ethos of investing in its most precious asset, its employees, and so it made perfect sense to try to obtain the highest formal acknowledgement of this via IIP.

November 2011 - Researchers at Queen Mary, University of London and STFC Daresbury Laboratory (DL) who are employing the HECToR supercomputer to investigate radiation damage in containers have been making use of NAG’s expertise in HPC software engineering.

July 2011 - NAG has announced the availability of the latest NAG Fortran Library. The Library contains over 1,700 powerful, reliable and flexible algorithms, ready for use from a wide range of operating systems, languages, environments and packages.
- NAG participating in Intel Many Integrated Core developments
June 2011 - Working closely with Intel Corporation in the evaluation of the suitability of Intel® Many Integrated Core (Intel® MIC) architecture for advanced numerical algorithms. A focused development team at NAG has had early access to the Intel MIC software development platform (codenamed “Knights Ferry”) and early versions of the associated software stack.
- Over 1,000 people have now benefitted from on-going HPC training program
May 2011 - The purpose of the courses is to equip users to effectively use HPC computers, in particular HECToR - short for High-End Computing Terascale Resource, a Research Councils UK high end computing service. The HPC training programme covers topics ranging from getting started on the system to improving parallel application performance and scalability on distributed memory machines. Although aimed mainly at HECToR users, the courses may also be of interest to a wider community. Training courses are held at NAG's offices or at various universities.
- Open Petascale Libraries (OPL) Project, Initiated by Fujitsu, Appoints NAG as Project Librarian
November 2010 - The Open Petascale Libraries (OPL) project, initiated by Fujitsu and announced at Supercomputing 2010, has appointed the Numerical Algorithms Group as the OPL Project Librarian. NAG will be the custodian of the library source code and will be producing periodic binary releases, as well as providing some of the algorithmic content.

November 2010 - When researchers at the University of Warwick and the University of Sheffield decided to use the UK's national academic supercomputer HECToR to study a problem in egg shell formation, they made use of NAG HPC software engineering expertise.
- US Climate Change Research Expected to Proceed Faster with High Accuracy NAG Computing Algorithms
November 2010 - Researchers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) doing advanced modeling with the Climate Modeling and Research System (CMRS), will now be able to use the widely respected numerical routines of the NAG Library on the new Cray XT6 supercomputer, know as Gaea.
