As scientific computation has developed, NAG has added a number of new products to its range by licensing specialised technology from leading developers. This has lead to the introduction of the AXIOM computer algebra system and the IRIS Explorer visualisation package, developed by IBM and Silicon Graphics respectively. NAG is the only European vendor of software for computer algebra, and will be making its technology freely available to the other partners in the project.
NAG's technical role in FRISCO will include work on interfacing Aldor and Fortran (NAG developed the world's first Fortran-90 compiler), integration of the Aldor components of the library into a coherent body of software, and work on industrial applications.
NAG has been involved in, and managed, a number of ESPRIT and other collaborative projects including FOCUS, GENESIS and Supernode-II. In its role as coordinating partner, NAG will draw on its experience of collaborative software development, which dates back to 1970, to contribute expertise in project management and quality assurance, both vital to a large software activity.
