NAG Statistical Add-Ins for Excel, Combined Sets 1 & 2 AEW3212DA & AFW3210DA README file 1. Introduction The 'NAG Statistical Add-Ins for Excel: Modelling and Multivariate Methods' comprise Set 1 of a family of Excel Add-Ins that provide additional statistical functionality for Excel users. The 'NAG Statistical Add-Ins for Excel: Nonparametric Methods' comprises the second Set 2 in the family. This product consists of both sets together addressing basic statistics, regression and correlation, time series analysis, the analysis of experiments, generalised linear models, multivariate methods and nonparametric statistics. NAG provides Windows help, online PDF documentation, a set of example workbooks and Camcorder demonstrations of the Add-Ins. The Add-In functions are based upon the NAG Fortran 77 Library. 2. System Requirements This product has been designed to run on Windows 95/98 and NT/2000/XP machines, using 32-bit Excel. It has been specifically tested with Excel 7 and Excel 2000. 3. Installation 3.1. If you are installing the fully licensed product... If you have version 1.0 of these Add-Ins on your machine then we strongly advise you to uninstall this prior to installing this version. To uninstall version 1.0 use the Add/Remove Programs option from the Control Panel, or use the Uninstall option from the NAG Statistical Add-Ins for Excel program folder. The CD should autorun on Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0 and later systems, and will then lead you to a dialogue for installation. If the autorun facility fails to operate, then double click on the setup.exe file on the CD. The add-in files themselves (*.xla) should be installed in your Excel Library directory for automatic access. The installation process will find the 'Library' directory of an Excel version and present this as the default location for these files. If you have more than one version of Excel installed then you may need to set the location manually using the 'Browse' facility. The help files will be installed in your Excel directory by default, so that they can be accessed from within Excel. The default location for the rest of the files is the directory c:\aew3211da if this exists on your system. Otherwise the default location is c:\Program Files\NAG\Statistical Add-Ins You are advised to change this manually using the 'Browse' facility to the location of version 1.1 if this still resides on your system. If you already have a trial installation of this version of the Add-Ins, you are advised to install the full product to the same location (which should be offered to you as the default location). Two DLL files (nagaddin.dll and nagaddin2.dll) are required. Their location MUST be on your path. 3.2. If you are installing the trial product... Download the self-extracting executable file into a temporary directory. From Windows Explorer double click on the file. You should then enter the InstallShield setup procedure. If you have an older version of the Add-Ins, we recommend that you install the trial materials in different directories to any fully licensed Add-In materials to avoid any possible interaction. (Note that if the add-ins files (.xla) are not installed in the Excel Library directory, Excel will not list them automatically. Similarly, the NAG help files will not be available from within Excel if they are not installed in the Excel directory.) Two DLL files (nagaddin.dll and nagaddin2.dll) are required. Their location MUST be on your path. 3.3. Uninstalling the product To uninstall the product use the Add/Remove Programs option from the Control Panel. 4. Help Files The main help file is called nagadd.hlp. The nagadd.hlp file may be accessed through the NAG Statistical Add-Ins for Excel program folder or by directly double clicking on nagadd.hlp. Alternatively, it may be accessed from the help button within the function wizard in Excel, or from the 'Nag' menu once the Add-Ins are loaded. 5. Differences from the Earlier Releases 5.1 Differences from the Earlier Release (1.0) of Set 1 a) The Add-Ins now place the functions in the 'Statistics' category, NOT a 'NAG' category. b) A manual is provided, both as hard copy and as part of the release materials. c) Many of the functions have been re-designed to make them more useful to statisticians. Parameter names are more meaningful, error messages are clearer and in some cases output is optional, effectively allowing larger problems to be solved. d) The Help system is now self-contained and simplified. It may be called from the 'Nag' menu when any one of the NAG Books is loaded. e) A complete set of annotated examples is included in four workbooks. f) NAGExtract has been improved, so that it remains visible for re-use until the user dismisses it. It has been changed to minimise movement within the Excel worksheet. g) A 'Nag' menu appears whenever a NAG Book is loaded or whenever NAGExtract book is loaded. From this the user can check who installed the software, call the associated help system or, if NAGExtract is loaded, call NAGExtract. h) Before the NAG Books are loaded, a check is made to ensure that they have been properly installed. 5.2 Differences from the Earlier Release (1.1) of Set 1 a) The underlying DLL in Set 1 has been corrected to remedy an error. b) Minor corrections have been made to the Add-Ins themselves. c) NAGExtract has been extended to give an option to include headings. 6.
