(Information technology - Programming languages - Fortran)



Fortran 2008 (which is Part 1 of the multi-part Fortran Standard) is an enhancement of Fortran 2003.

It incorporates the extension defined by the Technical Report:

whose final draft is visible as N1602. This was written as a Technical Report because the feature was deemed too important to wait for the next revision of the Standard.

It also incorporates all the corrections in the corrigenda to Fortran 2003, which are detailed in N1823.

The most important new features is:

An unofficial summary of this feature is available as N1824.

In addition, there are a considerable number of minor technical enhancements. An unofficial summary of these enhancements is available as N1891.

Two extensions of Fortran 2008 are defined by the Technical Specifications:

whose final draft is visible as N1942 and

whose final draft is visible as N2074. These were written as Technical Reports because the features were deemed too important to wait for the next revision of the Standard.
