This problem occurs on certain 8-bit graphics cards. It can be resolved by setting the following environment variable before starting explorer: setenv CX_XMCW_VISUAL DEFAULT There are two possibilities here. 1. Solaris OpenGL patch number 105049-02 will cause the Render module to crash. To check to see if this patch has been installed on your machine type the following: Showrev -p | grep 105049-02 Alternatively check to see if the directory /var/sadm/patch/105049-02 exists. You will need to remove this patch if the Render module is to function correctly. The patch can be removed by logging in as root as typing the following commands from a shell:
cd /var/sadm/patch/105049-02 2. Note that to run IRIS Explorer graphics, an OpenGL compliant graphics card is required [for releases of IRIS Explorer prior to 4.0]. It has been noted that on certain Sun UltraSparc 5 machines with 8-bit graphics there are no OpenGL drivers. The current recommendation is a replacement graphics card that supports OpenGL. Contact your nearest IRIS Explorer Center or Sun representative for further details. On newer releases of IRIS Explorer (Release 4.0 and later) a number of modules that use OpenGL for rendering are also available in versions that render via X using the Mesa graphics library . These Mesa-based modules will render on any X display. Setting the CXGLTYPE environment variable determines which version of these modules IRIS Explorer will use, e.g. (from the C shell): setenv CXGLTYPE mesagl See your Installer's Note for more details. This is caused when certain graphics cards are used with Open GL 1.1. This problem is corrected in Open GL 1.1.1. Please contact your nearest IRIS Explorer Center for further information. Certain graphics cards cause the Render's pull-down menus appear black. This problem can be resolved by setting the following environment variable before starting Explorer: % setenv CX_RENDER_NO_OVERLAYS |
